Quarantine Wall/Inner North Head - one or two dives (20 May 2012)

This reef drops from about 12 down to about 20 metres and is where you might see the elusive RED INDIAN FISH. You may also see sea dragons, flathead, port jackson sharks and leatherjackets, sponges, gorgonians and sea tulips.

There are lots of small gullies and overhangs and some very small swim-throughs. There are also large boulders that create gaps between the main reef and the boulder, enabling you to swim in between.

This dive is suitable for all levels of certification. Bring a torch to highlight some of the life in the crevices.

First dive: departs Tunks Park at 8.30 sharp. Pick up at Little Manly possible at 9 a.m., confirm with organiser.
Second dive: pick up at Little Manly only at 10.30 a.m. Return to Little Manly at approximately noon and then on to Tunks Park.

You can do one or both dives.

Annual General Meeting (22 May 2012)

The Annual General Meeting will be on Tuesday, 22nd of May

The AGM is a yearly event required by each university club and has two main functions:

1. President, Treasurer and Safety Report of the year passed.

2. Election of committee for the coming year.

The venue will be at the UTS Loft Bar, top floor. The loft bar is accessible off broadway, entrance next to Blink Optical, follow the pathway down to the right to the loft.

Food may be brought in, and drinks are available from the bar.

Please join us if you are interested in club governance, or would like to take a larger role in DOUTS volunteering. Please note you need to be a current (financial) member to nominate or vote at this event.

The Colours / Outside Harbour Double Dive (02 Jun 2012)

The Colours, is opposite the signal station about a kilometer offshore just south of South Head. It is a reef dive with plenty of fixed marine life and fish, with plenty of boulders and swim throughs to explore.

The boat will leave Tunks Park (map) at 8:30am sharp (please be there earlier to load up), expecting to return around 3pm

Depth: 22 - 30m, and an ocean dive. Will generally anchor around the 27 m mark. Recommended for those comfortable with boat diving, and who have dived to 30m before. There can be currents in the area so please ensure that you have a safety sausage in case you miss the anchor line for ascent.

The second dive will be somewhere close, the conditions of the day will determine this. Possibly inside North Head or the Centurion wreck down to 18m.

Gear hire is available, please book well in advance with what you need.

Since we will have a surface interval, it is always a good idea to bring warm clothes, water and snacks for a double dive. Bring your C-Card as well.

Best chance to see Grey Nurse sharks

Multiple trips from Long Bay - accessible by public transport

Magic Point is a sea cave South of Sydney Harbour that has a big reputation for Grey Nurse Sharks, a harmless and protected species. ...as well as other sea life. Magic Point is suitable for open water and advanced divers. Depths are relatively shallow at Magic Point (5-17 metres).

'Apart from the sharks, there are some giant cuttlefish, including a very aggressive one when I first dived there, sea dragons galore, giant rays and huge schools of yellowtail. Visibility on my dives here has been between 15 and 20 metres. "

When we last dived here in Spring the day was very popular. All saw the sharks.

There is also shore diving and shallow wrecks in Long Bay. We expect most divers to get a couple of dives in!

Venue: Long Bay picnic area, Fishermans Road, Malabar. For details on how to get there by public transport go to http://www.sydneybuses.info/ and look up route 399.

Pick up details: It will be a wet entry on the beach in front of the picnic area. The boat will approach the beach and you will need to board via the stepladder in deep water wearing your scuba gear. Do not bring any additional bags or clothes onto the boat; it's OK to bring hats, sunglasses and keys which can be minded by the boat captain.

Departure times: 8.30 a.m, 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. Please be kitted up and ready to go at the advertised departure for your dive.

Failure to be on time may result in your missing the dive.

Costs: The cost of your first dive is $30 (with fuel surcharge). Additional dives at $20 each.

Club gear hire available at $5 per piece.

Terrigal Diving Weekend: Saturday HMAS Adelaide Wreck - Only single dives available (23 Jun 2012)

Ex- HMAS Adelaide and Central Coast Diving Weekend (23^rd & 24^th June 2012)

DOUTS are spending the weekend on the Central Coast. We will spend both days diving the (almost) brand new HMAS Adelaide Wreck!

The Dives: The Ex- HMAS Adelaide is located 1.4 kms from the Skillion at Terrigal, resting in approximately 32 metres of water. The official dive site factsheet is here (link)

Dive times & slots: Dives will be run between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. If you wish to do a double dive, your first dive will be at 10 a.m. You will need to be kitted up and ready to board the boat by no later than 9.30 a.m. Dive times will be allocated closer to the time, but be prepared to be available for the period 9.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the day.

Dive 1 – Double Dive 1 - 7 Dive Spots Only

Dive 2 – Single Dive - 7 Dive Spots Only

Dive 3 – Double Dive 2 - N/A

Dive Prices: HMAS Adelaide diving is priced to take into account permits and levies involved with the exception of park fees (see below). Pricing will be $45 for one dive (covers towing and mooring fee) and $70 for a double dive.

There a plenty of great night dives inside the Harbour, around balmoral, inside the heads, or sow and pigs. The fishlife is different and the city lights are stunning!

This is a single dive, please make sure you bring a torch. It will be suitable for beginner night divers (who are comfortable with diving in general). The moon phase is 3 days after first quarter.

Experience the best dive sites of Bali. With a dive guide you will tour around the island while staying in accommodation close to the favourite dive spots on Bali. In just a couple of days you will be able to see all the top dive spots.

Great Barrier Reef and Yongala Liveaboard Cruise - Second trip! (13 Dec 2012)

GREAT BARRIER REEF AND YONGALA WRECK LIVEABOARD TRIP: 13-19 December 2012

Come and dive the Great Barrier Reef and the Yongala wreck in December 2012.

Your home for 5 nights is Kalinda, a 72 foot long vessel set up for diving. For more information on Kalinda and her facilities, go to www.kalinda.com.au.

The trip leaves from Townsville at 8 p.m. on Thursday 13 December and returns to Townsville by 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday 18 December. You will need to stay a night in Townsville on Tuesday night prior to returning to Sydney on Wednesday 19 December.

Diving will be to remote, seldom dived and unique reefs, in near to pristine locations right on the continental shelf. You will see anything from mantas, whale sharks, dolphins, colourful corals, loads of fish, reef sharks on most dives and a few nudibranchs, not to mention 25 m viz average. These reefs are so remote, you're unlikely to find any web-based information on them!

The SS Yongala sank in 1911 and is recognised as one of the top dive sites in Australia. It has become home to a vast array of marine life, including Queensland gropers, trevally, turtles, rays, giant morays and thousands of other creatures hang around the now coral-encrusted structure. Trip cost: The cost of the liveaboard, based on 16 travelling, is $860 per person. If we fill the boat (20 persons) it will be even cheaper!

This price includes up to four dives a day, tanks and weights, dedicated crew and dive service, and all meals and drinks (excluding alcohol) while on board.

The balance of the trip cost will be required to be paid by Friday 26 October 2012.

Additional charges: Reef tax $10.50 per person and Yongala tax $15 per person per day.
