Club Equipment

DOUTS owns and maintains a range of diving, boating and transport equipment for use by our members on Club activities. This equipment allows us to run affordable, member-organised diving around Sydney without everyone needing to own a complete set of equipment or have access to their own boat.

Take V – Club Dive Boat

Take V is DOUTS' very own dive boat and is our pride and joy. It allows us to run member dives at sites throughout Sydney Harbour and along the Sydney coastline that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to access from shore.

Take V is a 2013 Stabicraft 2050 Fisher, a 6.2 m aluminium monohull powered by a 2025 Suzuki 140 hp four-stroke outboard.

The vessel is set up to transport and support Club members undertaking recreational diving and related Club activities.

Take V is operated by approved Club Captains. Members interested in becoming a Club Captain are encouraged to speak with the Committee about the Club's familiarisation and competency requirements.

Dive Equipment

DOUTS maintains six complete sets of recreational scuba equipment for members to use on Club activities.

Each set includes:

• Buoyancy Compensator Device (BCD)

• Regulator set

• Dive computer

Club equipment is particularly useful for new divers who have not yet purchased their own gear, members who only own part of a set, and anyone who would rather not buy or transport a full set of equipment for occasional diving.

As shared Club equipment, members are expected to take reasonable care of gear while it is in their possession and report any damage, faults or missing components to the Committee.

Cylinders

The Club owns 12 scuba cylinders available for member use.

Cylinders are regularly used for Club shore and boat diving and can be allocated to members when registering for activities, subject to availability.

Members are responsible for checking their cylinder, gas supply and pressure before entering the water and should never assume that a cylinder has been filled simply because it has been supplied by the Club.

Weights

DOUTS maintains a supply of dive weights for use by members on Club activities.

Weights can be provided alongside Club dive equipment or used by members with their own equipment, subject to availability.

Members remain responsible for selecting appropriate weighting for themselves and their equipment configuration.

Club Ute

DOUTS also owns a Club ute, primarily used to transport Take V and the Club's diving equipment.

The ute gives the Club the ability to move the boat, cylinders and other equipment between storage, dive sites and boat ramps without relying on members to provide suitable private vehicles.

Use of the Club ute is restricted to authorised drivers and Club purposes.

Using Club Equipment

Club equipment is available for the benefit of DOUTS members and is shared between the Club's activities. Availability may therefore vary depending on the event and the number of members requiring equipment.

When registering for an event, you can book equipment that you require for the dive as well when you sign onto the event. Usually the event organiser transports it to the dive site and you can meet them there and pick it up then.

Members using Club equipment are expected to:

• Use equipment only for its intended purpose and within their training and experience;

• Check equipment before use and ensure it is suitable for the planned dive;

• Look after Club equipment as though it were their own;

• Return equipment promptly and in the condition in which it was provided; and

• Report any damage, malfunction or missing equipment to the Committee as soon as possible.

• PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PUT THE DUST CAP BACK ON YOUR REGS WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED!

DOUTS is a volunteer-run dive club. Unless specifically stated otherwise for an activity, Club dives are not professionally supervised dives. Members should be suitably qualified and comfortable planning and conducting their dive independently with their buddy.
