Dive Training with DOUTS

DOUTS is proud to offer its members access to internationally recognised scuba diving courses through SSI (Scuba Schools International).

As a university club with the majority of our members being students, DOUTS is focused on making diving more accessible, both as an entry point into the sport and as a pathway to developing more advanced skills beneficial for employment. By running courses through the club, we’re able to offer training at a lower cost than most commercial providers, while also integrating it with our regular dives, trips, and community.

Available Courses

We facilitate a range of SSI certifications, including:

  • Open Water Diver – Your entry-level certification to start diving independently
  • Advanced Open Water – Build experience and explore different types of diving
  • Specialty Courses – Navigation, deep diving, buoyancy, and more
  • React Right – First aid, CPR, and emergency response training
  • Divemaster – Take the first step into professional diving, develop leadership skills, and assist with training and dive operations

Additional courses may be offered based on demand.

Why Get Into Diving?

Diving opens up a completely different way to experience the world. It gives you the ability to explore environments that most people never see, build confidence in challenging conditions, and develop a strong sense of awareness and control underwater. For many, it quickly becomes more than just a hobby, it’s a skillset that carries into travel, adventure, and lifelong learning.

DOUTS aims to make that pathway accessible. By offering training within the club, we’re not just helping members get certified, we’re building a community of divers who continue to dive together, improve their skills, and support each other in the water.

For students in marine science, environmental science, and related fields, scuba certification is also highly valuable. Many types of marine fieldwork either require or strongly prefer certified divers. Having these qualifications can open up opportunities in research, internships, and future employment, and allows you to engage directly with the environments you’re studying.

Who Can Join?

These courses are available to all DOUTS members.

No prior experience is required for entry-level courses, and we welcome divers of all backgrounds and disciplines.
